The Odehe
Center is a
school for traditional drumming and dancing. It is located in Teshie, a
coastal village on the outskirts of Accra. Founded by Emmanuel Gomado in
1989, it is now open to people who are interested in drumming and dancing
all through the year.
Students come both from
local areas and from abroad. Once or twice a year Emmanuel and further
teachers organize workshops.
Besides, the Odehe Dance Company, a
professional dance group, uses the Odehe Center for its training.

The inviting courtyard
is lined by two white houses standing opposite each other. The rooms are
modestly furnished with shelves and either two or three wooden beds. All
windows and doors are protected by mosquito nets. Toilet and shower
facilities are available as well as drinking water.
Between the two houses there are two open circular summer huts with thatched
roofs, one which serves as a kitchen and the other as a classroom. From the roof terrace of the main
house, you get a beautiful view over the sea and the surrounding
neighborhood. It takes about 10 minutes by local bus to reach the sea and about 25 minutes to the centre of Accra.
Towards the sea there
is another house belonging to the Odehe-Center, which offers more
seclusion and direct closeness to the sea.
